Job Description

 

What will the apprentice be doing:
The successful candidates will be involved all aspects of working on a vineyard.

Key Responsibilities Vineyard Operative:
Tractor driving (experience essential).
Tractor operations: mowing, leaf trimming, leaf removal, air assisted spraying, boom sprays, and mulching, organisation of our machinery and equipment.
Site maintenance: headlands, borders. Vineyard trellis repairs/maintenance. Strimming work. General estate maintenance.
Some seasonal evening/night work will be required.
Vineyard Work – pruning, tying down, bud rub, canopy management,
Harvest – tractor and trailer work, supervising extra staff.

The apprenticeship is a two year course, based in East Sussex. The candidate would be required to attend 5 residential training blocks per year, each of 1 week duration, which is included with the full-time position at Exton Park Vineyard.

Yield forecasting & management
Pruning & trellising
Canopy management
Vineyard floor management
Vineyard establishment
Harvest planning and management
Vineyard nutrition
Health & safety and standard operating procedures
Vineyard machinery & equipment
Qualifications Awarded
Apprenticeship Certificate
Level 3 award in emergency first aid at work
Level 2 in Maths and English (if applicable)
PA1 Safe use of pesticides (pre requisite of PA3)
PA3 Air assisted sprayer

Desired skills and personal qualities:
Record Keeping – stock control, vineyard data collection.
Full right to work in the UK.
Good English, verbal, and written communication skills. Some computer skills required.
Positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
Full driving license mandatory.
Forklift licence would be favourable.
All relevant PA1-3 spray qualifications would be a bonus. although training will be given to the right candidate.

Things to consider:
The role is rural so a candidate will need to be able to reliably commute.
Ability to drive a tractor is key, but all other skills will be taught.
Salary is flexible depending on experience.
23 days holiday, we do not work bank holidays.
