Part time Gardener

Job Description

 

The garden, surrounded by fields and woodlands consists of approx. 4 acres of formal gardens. The landscaped gardens are made up of lawns, established borders, box and yew hedging, shrubs, rose gardens, a vegetable garden and a cutting garden. These are interspersed with terraces, ponds, garden paths and an orchard, and are all maintained to a high standard.

The role would suit an enthusiastic and dedicated individual who has knowledge of the management needed and skills required to maintain the formal gardens.

Duties to include:
- lawn care and mowing of formal lawns
- maintenance of all beds, planted areas and shrubs
- maintain box and yew hedging including cutting and shaping
- managing rose gardens and climbers throughout the property
- growing plants and vegetables from seed in the greenhouse
- maintenance of all paths and terraces in formal gardens
- managing and collecting/picking all cutting flowers, vegetables and fruit
- creating and managing a clear planting programme on an annual basis for beds, pots, cutting gardens and vegetable beds including managing house plants
- planting and maintaining all pots and terrace planting
- leaf blowing in formal gardens area
- other garden maintenance duties may be required on an ad-hoc basis

Requirements:
- plant knowledge including cutting gardens, roses and vegetables
- familiar with safe general use and maintenance of normal garden machinery and equipment including the use of small ladders
- Horticultural qualifications PA1/6 preferred and sprayer certifications required
- ability to work to an extremely high standard with an eye for detail
- good planning and organisation skills with the ability to plant to a schedule
- ability to work alone with independence and self control

Reporting:
The candidate will report into the Property Manager on a day-to-day basis with the owner of the property available for strategic decision making

Role:
8hrs per day
Bathroom and kitchen brea-out area provided

Salary:
Dependent on hours available but generous package on offer.
