Role summary Our Immersive Volunteers support our Ranger team here at Leith Hill to look after this special place.

What's involved?
As part of our Land, Outdoor and Nature vision you will have the opportunity to help the team carry out a diverse range of activities, making a real difference to Surrey Hills and gaining new skills and experience through the seasons:

• Volunteer to assist the Rangers in practical countryside management tasks such as path and boundary maintenance, invasive species control, habitat restoration, forestry work, biodiversity monitoring, and general maintenance.
• Undertake wildlife monitoring across the property to help us quantify the success of our land management strategy.
• Assist (and potentially lead as you develop new skills) in the organisation, development and delivery of visitor experiences across the property, focusing on the outdoor experience.
• Find more environmentally sustainable ways of working across the property, so that the property achieves its environmental targets.
• Welcoming visitors and maintaining good working relations with tenants and neighbors.
• To help you develop within this voluntary role you will be guided and mentored by the Central Surrey Hills Ranger Team. There will also be opportunities to volunteer and train across the Surrey Hills portfolio.
• Training will be provided to enable you to carry out your role safely and confidently. Opportunities for further personal or professional development will be discussed during regular catchups.
Practical Information
• We can offer shared accommodation during your time here so that you can undertake this role, with all bills included. Volunteers often find some local work to cover additional expenses, such as food costs.
• We will provide work clothing, personal protective equipment and relevant in-house and external training to be safe and confident on your role.
• We will cover agreed out of pocket expenses (where agreed in advance).
• There will be the opportunity to work with Ranger teams across other National trust properties within London and the South East.

This role will suit you if you are...
• Passionate about nature and the outdoors.
• Looking to gain the experience required for a job in Countryside Management/Nature Conservation.
• Looking for a detailed and immersive experience of the National Trust or the sector.
• Interested in understanding how we care for our places at National Trust over time.
• Once trained, as part of your volunteer role you may be driving National Trust vehicles so a driving license would be advantageous.
• Interested in volunteering for up to 12 months.

By getting involved you could
• Volunteer to look after important landscapes for future generations.
• Volunteer amongst thousands of acres of pristine nationally important habitats comprising of Site of Special Scientific Interest woodland, chalk downland, heathland and farmland. As well as Special Area of Conservation, Local Nature Reserves, Special Protection Areas and more.
• Be supported in developing a variety of practical estate and habitat management skills, likely to include estate furniture maintenance, forestry works, fencing, brush cutting and invasive plant species control, amongst others.
• Support us to deliver important wildlife survey work and visitor engagement activities.
• Volunteer alongside dedicated and experienced staff and volunteers
• We can offer accommodation on site to help you undertake the role
• Be supported in developing a variety of practical estate and habitat management skills
• Help the Surrey Hills team deliver conservation gains for wildlife.
