Position Overview
We are a long-established West Sussex firm specializing in the upkeep of existing ornamental ponds and water features. We need someone who is enthusiastic, conscientious and self-motivated to carry out a variety of tasks associated with this vocation. The applicant must hold a full driving licence and have knowledge of fish and aquatic systems. All other training will be given on site. There will be opportunities to work as part of a team, work with your own initiative and you will be given your own responsibilities.

The vacancy is for an assistant to help with the upkeep and maintenance of domestic, commercial and natural ponds and water features.

The tasks will include: pond cleaning with associated equipment, Movement of aquatic life into and out of temporary holding systems; Planting and re-potting of aquatic plants; Pump, clarification and filtration installation and maintenance; Fish health assessment and treatment; Pond enlargement, relining and repair using associated building tools; Use of small boats and seine nets.

A full driving licence is required, as there will be jobs involving lone work upon site.

This is an active job throughout all seasons and weather conditions. This job is very varied and gives you an excellent sense of achievement and satisfaction.

You must be able to swim, have good interpersonal skills and be able to interact well with clients and work colleagues. Be at all times, polite, well presented and punctual.

Essential Job duties:
Cleaning of ornamental ponds and water features
Handling of all associated pond life
On growing and planting of aquatic plants
Transportation of equipment to the place of work
Installation and maintenance of pond filtration equipment

Essential Requirements:
Ability to swim
Keen and self-motivated
Good interpersonal skills
Punctual, presentable, polite
Full driving license (preferably clean) & own transport
Basic understanding and knowledge of building skills
Basic knowledge of ornamental pond systems and environments
Other Skills/Abilities that would be an advantage:
Boat skills
Netting skills
Landscaping skills
Fish disease recognition
Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge
